Edited to add: I’m happy that this is raising discussion, especially regarding the electoral college system. And yes, in response to a comment, I completely agree you should look it up, thoroughly — regardless of whether you think it’s a good thing or bad thing (and yes, this is a hot topic), the fact remains that it’s what we’ve got at the moment… Yes, the electoral college does give disproportionate weight to voters in smaller states, and focuses attention on the handful of swing states. WHICH MAKES YOUR VOTE ALL THE MORE IMPORTANT — in the swing states obviously, where your vote can actually make or break an election… And even in other states, to show your support and take part in history and the fundamental workings of our society!
